Six years ago…

So as some of you may already know from my previous blog post, as part for my new “healthy 2015” pledge I have decided to challenge myself & take part in the BUPA LONDON 10K in aid of The National Autism Society. I must admit at first I was not filled with enthusiasm about the event, (mostly because I don’t enjoy running and knew real training had to be involved) but now I’ve begun training and fundraising I’m overjoyed to be taking part.

Before I ask you to support me, here is my story and why raising money for Autism is so important to me. The first time I worked with an Autistic child I was just 18, working as a Teaching Assistant in a Special School, fresh out of college. To this day I don’t know how I got the job, 18 year old inexperienced me up against 6 fully trained, women. But my enthusiasm shone through and I got it! As soon as I met this little boy everything about his demeanour intrigued me and I instantly warmed to him. Still unsure about what “autism” meant or entailed I spent the year learning alongside this amazing little boy. Little did he know all he had taught me and how he opened my heart and mind to Autism.

I knew within a few months of working with him that I could never work doing anything else again…

Six years later, now working independently, I am still intrigued on a daily basis by the fantastic children I work with…

Running the BUPA London 10k is an exciting and challenging opportunity for me to raise money and awareness in aid of the National Autistic Society. They help support so many wonderful children and families affected by Autism and I am so proud to be able to do this for them…
