Have you accepted it?

Accepting that you have an Autistic child can be extremely difficult for parents…

The overwhelming reality of your child’s diagnosis can make you feel as though you’re just not ready to accept it.Or you may feel entirely ready to accept your child is Autistic, but not yet ready to accept exactly what Autism actually is.

As parents you can feel a roller-coaster of emotions, from anger to grief, denial and deep sadness. Some parents even question the diagnosis of their child and feel that they want/need to seek another opinion, hoping that it may highlight something different….

…ALL of which are perfectly ok and normal.

You, as a parent first need to realise that by accepting that your child has Autism is just you saying…..

“OK, now how can I support my child to help them be the very best that they can be?”

And tell me, who DOESN’T want to do that for their child?

Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get used to this transformation in your family, because IT IS huge! The weeks or even months after receiving an Autism diagnosis are tough, no doubt about it. But this is the perfect time for you to be educating yourself as best as you can so that you can understand your child…

…AND this is exactly what I will be talking about in my next email.
