Are the French really romantic?

maxresdefault

Have you ever heard someone say…

Rich people are greedy.

Men are strong.

Women are emotional.

Blondes are unintelligent.

Teenagers rebel.

British people eat sones & drink tea.

Americans are obese.

The French are romantic.

Asians are the most clever.

These are all common stereotypes we are told in life.

All completely ridiculous.

Over the years I’ve been asked by many people, what are the children like that I work with?

And my answer is always the same.

“Every child is different.”

No two child I’ve worked with are the exact same just because they have autism.

The stereotypes for autistic children are either that they’re a child who is always in distress or ‘Rain Man’…

(The Rain Man one is particularly tedious)

My friend, a special needs teacher, was once asked by a someone at school pick up “When her Grandson would get his special memory.”

True story!

You can see how these stereotypes can have such a negative effect on how the world sees people with autism.

And worse still the expectations parents and carers have for the autistic children.

If you’ve thought like this before or made comparisons with your child you need to stop right now.

Because, I’ll say it again…

No two children I’ve worked with are the same just because they both have autism…

All children are different.

While you’re here,

At the start of 2018 I’m going to be launching a brand new program for parents and carers who want my 1 on 1 support to help their autistic child thrive in every area of their development.
