What did you do this morning?…
I had a little personal celebration in my kitchen because for the first time in I can remember; I was up, showered, moisturised (pregnancy obsession), wearing proper clothes, making breakfast and feeling surprisingly well rested!
* High fives myself! *
I think it’s important to recognise and celebrate these little wins we have in life.
Why?
Because it creates momentum. Positivity breads positivity and who doesn’t want more positivity in their life?
Whenever I’ve done this in my work and with the children I work with I’ve nearly always had mini breakthroughs.
Because when you’re raising or working with children with ASD things like…
Verbally requesting a snack, getting dressed alone, having a meltdown free week, sleeping through the night, sitting nicely at the table or being calm all morning ARE A BIG DEAL!…
And should be celebrated not overlooked.
The problem with overlooking the little wins is you never recognise all the amazing things your child is doing. You just raise your expectation each time without ever praising your child for what they’ve achieved.
Don’t get me wrong though; I’m all for striving for better and raising expectations eventually.
But, how often do you step back and look over all your child has achieved?
It’s a pretty great feeling – I dare you!
