Miracle Toy

Many parents/carers and teachers struggle with getting and holding their Autistic child’s attention when talking to them and I can say from experience this is a challenge that can become very frustrating. What with SO many techniques and visuals to try, you can easily feel like you’re fighting a losing battle.

But I assure you, you’re not!

It’s hard at times to remember that many Autistic or Asperger’s children have a shorter
attention span than typically developing children. Therefore, concentrating for long periods of time can actually be a real challenge for them!

One thing that I’ve found in my years of experience and many other Autistic professions use to overcome this hurdle are “Fidget toys”.  Research has shown that Autistic and Asperger’s children with a short attention span can focus much better just by having something in their hands to fiddle with.

Fidget toys are can be easily purchased online now and can range from a slinky to a koosh or squeezy toy. Something even as simple as a stone or shell can work wonders.

If you’re feeling creative why not make one at home with your child, creative play is a great relaxation activity for an Autistic or Asperger’s child. How about a pipe cleaner monster, an animal made from aluminium foil, a bubble wrap ball or colourful glitter shaker?

Make or invest in a fidget toy today and enjoy reaping the benefits from your child!
