Catching your autistic child’s eye

The other day I was out shopping and I popped into the toilets. While I was there I saw something that caught my eye…

Above the sink area was a poster of a pug puppy looking at me with begging eyes.

I’m not even really a pug lover but how could that not get my attention.

As I wondered why on earth there was a poster of a pug by the women’s sinks I quickly realised it was an advert.

Later that day I thought about how clever it was, using a cute pug puppy to advertise in the women’s toilets…

Because what they were advertising had NOTHING to do with pugs!

It was purely to catch a women’s eye so they’d read the rest of the advert.

And they got me!

I then wondered what type of thing they’d use in the men’s toilets to catch a man’s eye…

Then I quickly realised it probably wasn’t worth thinking about – If you know what I mean!

Anyway you’re probably wondering what this has to do with autistic children…

Well, sometimes it can be difficult to gain the attention of your autistic child, and you too may need to do something eye catching and “out there” to get their attention.

One of the things I talk about in my new book “A Guide To Unlimited Autism Success” is the importance of gaining your child’s attention before you speak to them…

Read about it here

I also clearly break down the strategies I use to gain the attention of the children I work with.
